Among the artistic performances presented by the Korean Art Association of the Disabled last year, the dance work by persons with hearing impairment won unstinted applause from the audience.
The success was associated with the devoted efforts of Kim Son Yong, a dance instructor of the association.
It is very difficult to ensure the unity of movements in dance works by performers with hearing impairment as they are to conduct rhythmic movements simultaneously to the tune of musical works.
While teaching the dancers folk dances, she put more emphasis on implanting in them patriotism and love for the nation than teaching rhythms.
Before starting training, she would first give a detailed explanation citing examples of educational value of the characteristics and advantages of the refined and elegant traditional dance and the ennobling patriotic ideas and spirit of the peerlessly men who developed the Korean dance further to glorify it as a pride of the nation.
In this course, the dancers became more keenly aware that their traditional dance is the most delicate and refined dance in the world, and this led to their successful performances.
