Education Support System for the Disabled under Operation
The educational sector has put effort to operate a new education support system for children with disabilities on an experimental basis this year, true to the decisions of the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers` Party of Korea on establishing a nationwide education support system for the disabled.
Officials and educators in the Ministry of Education and relevant sectors, including the Party and government organs in Pyongyang and the central teaching training centre, organized a class for children with hearing impairment in the Hwawon Kindergarten No. 2 in Hwasong District, appointed teachers and medical workers, and improved the curricula in keeping with reality. They also made multimedia presentations suited to the psychology of children with disabilities, published new textbooks for sign language education, and prepared hundreds of teaching aids and toys.
They provided fine bedrooms and other living conditions and arranged a bus service for commutation of children with disabilities in the weekly kindergarten.
On April 1, amid the concern of officials and educators in the relevant sector, the first lesson was given in this kindergarten for children with disabilities from several districts.
From next year, based on the educational experiences gained this year in this kindergarten, classes for children with disabilities will be organized in kindergartens and schools in all provinces.
