Inaugural ceremony of the reconstructed Sokwang Temple was held

   Sokwang Temple, one of the famous architectural heritage of the middle age, was reconstructed in our country.

   The Sokwang Temple is a Buddhist temple and is situated in Solbong-ri,Kosan County of Kangwon Province. It was first built in 1386 in the last period of Koryo Dynasty and was expanded on a large scale in the period of the feudal Joson dynasty. 53 magnificent buildings were neighbouring each other and they formed an architectural group on a large scale and it looked alike a village.

   The Sokwang Temple was composed of many buildings like Taeung Hall (the main building), Hoji Gate, Jogye Gate, Puli Gate, Solsongdong Pavilion and Ryongbi Pavillion. It took the first place in the scale, area and number of attached buildings among the temple architectural heritage of Korea.

   8 buildings including Taeung Hall, Simgom Hall and Ungjin Hall were restored to the original state and over 10 Buddhist images and hundreds of Buddhist articles were furnished in these buildings.

   The inaugural ceremony of Sokwang Temple, which was magnificently reconstructed under the careful leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, was held on December 12, 2019.
