One January day in 1987, President Kim Il Sung held a consultation meeting to discuss issues of improving the living standards of people in the Kangwon Province.

   While presiding over the meeting, he observed that the citizens of Wonsan City are good at cooking and the local dishes have been well known from olden times. He also pointed out that the province abounds in shellfish like corbicula, abalone, oyster and trepang, recalling about the several occasions when he enjoyed the very good taste of the local dishes prepared with shellfish. He gave directions to build restaurants in many places to offer local special dishes to many people.

   Thanks to his warm care, measures were taken and tens of restaurants have been built along the beautiful seashore of Wonsan City adding to the fame of the local dishes as well as to the richness of culinary delights.
