A Great Impact
From olden times, the Koreans used various kinds of pickling including pollack roes, shrimps, anchovy, shellfish, oyster and crab as side dishes in their diet.
At one time, some of leading officials neglected small-scale fishing while resorting to large-scale fishing, with the result that the pickling were not supplied to the people properly.
In early December 1967, President
During my guidance trip to Nampho I was told that its citizens were not supplied with pickled shrimps properly. So I called you to ask about the reason. If you failed to supply even pickled shrimps sufficiently to them, how can you look them straight in the face?
His voice was quiet, but it gave a great impact on the officials.
Noting that, from olden times, the pickled shrimps and shellfish are the special side dishes on the west coast most favoured by our people, he took measures to supply various pickling to the people by directing efforts to the small- and medium-scale fishing.
His instruction issued an alarm warning to the work style of officials in the fishing sector in those days. It served as an important occasion for producing delicious pickling in large quantities to supply them to the people.
