The most famous noodles in our country are the Pyongyang Cold Noodles.

   The food means cold noodles favoured by the people of Pyongyang. It reflects the characteristics of buckwheat noodles which are taken with cool stock boiled with meat. 

   The food was renowned for the features of noodle coils, stock, garnishing, seasoning, the vessel in which it is served and the way the noodle coils are put in the vessel.

   From olden times the Pyongyang people would get together on holidays and other happy events to have the food. They drank strong liquor first before having the cold noodles, saying that liquor first, noodles later.

   Today, Okryu Restaurant and many other public catering amenities serve the cold noodles, the pride of Pyongyang.

   The food, overflowing with the national flavour and sentiment, was inscribed on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage on November 26, 2013, and on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on November 30, 2022.
