The Monument to the Great Victory in Yonan Fort

The Monument to the Great Victory in Yonan Fort (Yonsongdaechopbi) situated in the town of Yonan County, South Hwanghae Province, was built in the early 17th century in commemoration of the victory in the battle of Yonan Fort during the Imjin Patriotic War.

During the war, our people organized righteous volunteers’ corps all over the country and waged vigorous struggles to drive the Japanese invaders out.

Among them is a proud story about the volunteers led by RI Jong Am who defended the wall to the last by smashing the invaders in Yonan Fort.

The monument carries the historical fact of the battle.

It consists of a black marble body and two tiers of rectangular pedestals. The body is finished in a semicircle without a headstone.

It is a precious national treasure telling the victory won by our people in the struggle of driving out the foreign aggressors during the Imjin Patriotic War.
