Early in August Juche 74 (1985), President Kim Il Sung came to the Undok Restaurant while looking around the newly-built restaurants in Changgwang Street.

   With a roof of antique-looking Korean tiles, the imposing front gates, the fences covered with gourd vine, the round dining tables in the middle of hot-floored dining rooms and the neat straw cushions around them, the Undok Restaurant, at the first sight, presented a typical Korean style house which was rich in national emotion and color.

   Looking around its inside and outside, the President said with great satisfaction that it was well built in the Korean-manner, especially its tile-roofed house with front gates and gourd-vined fences was very much to the Korean taste, hence a real Korean style.

   In fact, the restaurant could have been finely built into a Korean-style house under his prudent care and instructions.

   Looking up to the President who was pleased as if forgetting all his worldly cares, the officials were fascinated by his noble traits to attribute the good results to the officials and builders, though he had taught the ways in details to build it in the Korean manner.

   Indeed, the President was the benevolent father of the nation who found out and highly valued our excellent national customs.
