Songam Cavern

   Songam Cavern is the underground karstic grotto situated at the boundary between Sonam-dong, Kaechon City and Songam-dong, Anju City, South Phyongan Province.

   The cavern was formed under Cholsok Peak, which is 303.9m above sea level, looking over the Lake Yonphung, a beautiful scenic spot with clear water.

   Dolomite stratification formed about a billion years ago has been dissolved and corroded for a long period of time to represent mysterious figures of stone flowers, stalactites and stalagmites.

   It consists of one main passageway and three branches whose total length is 2 160m. It has a great number of amazing beauties in 16 sectors such as Gateway Sector, Waterfall Sector, Odd rock Sector, Snowscape Sector, Galaxy Sector, Forest Sector, Treasure Sector, Hundreds of flowers Sector, Palace Sector, Resuscitation Sector, Volcano Sector, Flower Garden, Longevity Sector, Dragon king’s palace Sector, Good harvest Sector, Fairy Sector. Unlike Ryongmun Cavern and Paekryong Cavern, it is consistently ascendant from entrance to exit.

   Its highest place is 150m above sea level, while the lowest place 45m.

   Songam Cavern where one finds wonderful sights wherever goes and one gets into ecstasies whatever sees, has been well equipped for people including young generations to lead a cultural and emotional life to the full.
