Pheasant Paeksuk

Paeksuk is one of the favourite dishes of Korean people enjoyed from the olden times.

Paeksuk is the meat or fish boiled in water and served with spiced soy sauce. Among its kinds, the pheasant paeksuk has been noted as a famous Korean food for its purity and sweetness.

One day in December Juche 92 (2003), Chairman Kim Jong Il asked the officials whether they knew how to make the pheasant paeksuk.

The officials looked at each other without answering. They had only heard of it but had no idea about its recipe.

Looking at their wondering faces, the Chairman said that today he would teach them how to make it. He taught as follows; cut the flesh off, boil the bones for an hour and a half, boil again together with the flesh for about 15 minutes and finally salt properly without using soy sauce. He concluded that was the pheasant paeksuk.

The officials got to know the recipe well and were deeply impressed by the ardent patriotic love of the Chairman who tried to find out and develop even a national flavoured food.
