Newly-registered Intangible Cultural Heritage

   Such precious spiritual and cultural properties as Legend of Mt Paektu, Salutation Manners of Korea, Tea Culture, Metal Crafts, Massage Treatment, Legend of Mt Jongbang and Traditional Embroidery of Anju that reflect the resourcefulness and talents of the Korean nation have been newly registered as the State or Local Intangible Cultural Heritage.

   Legend of Mt Paektu praises Mt Paektu’s impressive, majestic and shifting miraculous figures and scenes, and demonstrates well the desire and will, patriotic zeal of the nation to worship, defend and glorify the mountain permeated with the nation’s soul and spirit as an ancestral mountain maintaining the lifeline of the nation.

   Salutation Manners of Korea, one of the social customary practices, is a traditional and unique ethical standard of the Koreans. Specific in courtesy, it fits to the sentiments and aesthetic tastes of the Koreans, and proves hygienically superior, thereby inscribed as a State Intangible Cultural Heritage.

   Also inscribed as the State Intangible Cultural Heritage are Tea culture with a long history and tradition, Metal Crafts for making utensils and decorations and Massage Treatment, one of the fine Koryo medical treatments.

   Those inscribed as the Local Intangible Cultural Heritage are Legend of Mt Jongbang from North Hwanghae Province which clearly reflects the anti-aggressive and patriotic spirits of our people and Traditional Embroidery of Anju from South Phyongan Province which looks fresh and gorgeous for its embossed work by padding cloth, cotton and threads. Both of them are well maintained until today.
