Intangible cultural heritage – Arirang folk song
Arirang is a typical folk song of the Korean nation that all Koreans know and enjoy singing.
With a gentle and lyrical melody, it reflects well the national sentiments and spirit of the Koreans, which reminds of the history of national sufferings and the love of native land.
Arirang has been handed down orally for centuries and has never lost its popularity among the Koreans. Now it is sung in its traditional form by people all over the country and also performed in orchestral arrangements and so on.
In recent days, modern versions of Arirang have been composed reflecting the realities of our times, which lead to the whole society full of national emotions and optimism.

On November 26, 2014, Arirang folk song was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO.
