This is the peculiar national dish of our people as one of the cakes which our people have made for a long time. This is made using the earthenware steamer and so it is also called the earthenware steamer cake. This cake has long history. According to the old records, the people of Balhae that existed in the 7th-10th century ate the steamed rice cake and it was good to see and was delicious.

This shows that Balhae people sieved the pear and kneaded it with the powdered rice and that they also dried the grape, inserted it into the dough and steamed it.

Its main ingredients are white rice, glutinous rice, hulled millet, polished grain millet and so on.

The red bean, bean, sesame and mung beans are used as the bean flour to separate the layers.

The steamed rice cake with the windweed was the special dish using the white and soft roots of windweed. The windweed grows in the places such as the field, the ridges around a dry field, roodsides, and banks and in all ports of our country before and after the first of the lunar Feburary.

Our people regarded the first of lunar Feburary as the day when they began to plow the field and this day they used to eat the steamed windweed rice cake while taking rest. Sice the steamed windweed rice cake is delicious and sweet, it stimulates the appetite.
