NICH: Custom Related with Songi Mushroom from Mt Chilbo
The Korean people have created and developed a peculiar and fine custom related with songi mushroom from Mt Chilbo in the course of picking the mushroom abundant in the mountain and using it in their dietary life.
The songi mushroom from Mt Chilbo is particularly renowned as its nutritive value and medicinal effect are greater than those growing in other areas and the natural, geographical and climate conditions of the area are very favourable for its growth.
The custom is about collecting, assorting, grading, using and storing the mushroom.
The locals regard the mushroom, a specialty of their locality, as a source of their pride, and carry forward the custom from one generation into the next.
The custom was inscribed on the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage as No. 141 on August 8, 2025.
