As a rare plant of a single species in the world, Pentactina rupicola is indigenous to Korea. It occurs in the Manphokdong section of Inner Kumgang.

   About 3km upwards along the Manchon Stream from Naegumgang-ri is Kumgang Gate. And about 300m up from there is a reserve for the trees, which covers an area of over 10 hectares.

   The trees, 80 to 90 years old, are 1.3 metres tall on average, 0.3 metres round at the root neck, 0.2 metres round at the chest height and 0.8 metres across at the crown.

   They add more beauty to the scenery of the world-famous Mt Kumgang. The tree is under special protection as a natural monument, which is of great academic significance.
