Natural Monument: Ryonju Pools

Ryonju Pools are located in Okryu Valley in the Kuryongyon section of Outer Kumgang in Mt Kumgang, a celebrated mountain in Korea.

There is a steep cliff north of the pools and the Kuryong Pond 400 metres southwest of them.

They consist of two pools formed by the weathering of glaciers and water flowing down the valley for ages.

The upper pool is smaller than the lower one. The former is 10m long, 5-6m wide and 6m deep, and the latter, 20m long, 8-9m wide and 9m deep.

Between them is a waterfall which is 3-4m high.

The pools present unique scenery in Okryu Valley.

They are so named as they look like a string of two blue beads.

The pools go well with the surrounding mountains, presenting a beautiful landscape.
