Natural Monument: Sabina chinensis at Mt Taesong
Our country abounds in rare, precious and beautiful natural monuments. Among them is Sabina chinensis at Mt Taesong.
The tree grows in the Central Botanical Garden. Originally, it was planted in Nampho around 1600 and was transplanted in1959. It is 3.2 metres tall, 3.3 metres round at the root neck, 3.1 metres round at the chest height, 14 metres wide at the crown, and 41 metres in circumference.
It has three branches stretching out horizontally at the height of 0.5m with their twigs gradually drooping to the earth surface.
The tree not only looks good but smells sweet.
It is a natural monument of significance in studying the longest life of Sabina chinensis. For its tallest height and large horizontal area, it has a scenic value.
