Natural Monument: Umbrella Pine in Wonsan

This pine tree grows in Wonsan University of Agriculture.

The evergreen coniferous tree in the Sciadonitys family is also called Sciadonitys verticillata.

As an androgynous plant, its unisexual flower with no perianth petals comes into bloom from March to April. It is usually planted in gardens and used as timber.

The tree was transplanted around 1890 when it was 30-year-old.

It is 19m tall, 2.2m round at the root neck, 1.9m round at the chest height, and 6.4m wide at the crown.

It grows upright with its branches spreading out nearly horizontally, thus forming a conical shape.

   Its growth conditions are good.

As the tallest and oldest pine in the country, it is a natural monument with great academic significance. It adds beauty to the surrounding scenery.
