Hand Therapy–National Intangible Cultural Heritage
Hand therapy cures diseases by stimulating certain points of the human body in a various way such as pressing, rolling, massaging, stroking and pinching.
Whenever they got such external wounds as bone fracture or dislocation while working, the Korean ancestors checked bleeding, killed pain or lowered the swelling by instinctively pressing the wounded areas with the hand.
This remedy was handed down for ages and developed into a primitive therapeutic method and then into the present specialized hand therapy.
This therapy is now making a tangible contribution to promoting the people’s health along with its ever-expanding application range.
The therapy, created and enriched along with the time-honoured history of the country, was inscribed on the list of national intangible cultural heritage on November 18, Juche 110 (2021).
