New intangible cultural heritage registered on the national and local intangible cultural heritage lists

   The National Authority for the Protection of Cultural Heritage has registered eight new elements as national and local intangible cultural heritage on November 7, Juche 112 (2023).

   New national intangible cultural heritage includes the manufacturing technique of Tanchong pigments, Legends of Mt. Chilbo, processing technique and application custom of Koryo medicinal plants and so on.

   The manufacturing technique of Tanchong pigments as a method to produce the colourful paints of classical beauty created by our ancestors is still used today to decorate and protect the wooden building monuments and Korean-style modern buildings.

   Processing technique and application customs of Koryo medicinal plants make an active contribution to the promotion of the people's health with the development of the processing technique and treatment methods of traditional Koryo herbs.

   The legend of Mt Chilbo well shows the history, culture and beauty of the country through the legends associated with Mt Chilbo, a pride of the Korean nation.

   Pyongyang Pibimpap (boiled rice with assorted mixtures), a local food specialty of high nutritive value, and several brewing techniques are the newly registered local elements.
