For its location at the highest place in the DPRK, the Paektusan Biosphere Reserve has various species of plants according to the climatic zones.

It is distributed with more than 2 700 species of plants. What is characteristic in the flora in the Mt Paektu area is that the species of plants with a comparatively high rate of distribution grow in larger numbers than in other regions.

Dynamic scientific research activities are being conducted in the country to assess the distribution of alpine, endangered, rare and medicinal plants and their species, as well as the change of plants in the reserve like the vegetating change around the forest line of Mt Paektu, and to preserve them in their original state.
