Natural Monument–Kwangmyong Zelkovas

Over ten zelkova trees grow at the Sogwang Temple 20km north of the county town of Kosan in Kangwon Province.

They are said to have been planted in 1386 along with the construction of the temple. They sprawl over an area of 280 hectares. The tallest one is 27m and its root collar is 9.8m round.

The trees are under conservation as a natural monument for their academic and educational significance, and add beauty to the scenery of the temple.
