KFPD Activities

Under the sponsorship of the Korean Federation for Protection of the Disabled (KFPD) the 2012 joint meeting of the disabled was held at the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace on December 3 to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Present there were members of the KFPD Central Committee, persons with disabilities and their family members, voluntary service providers, officials in charge of disability-related affairs from all provinces, working people and students in Pyongyang. Also present there on invitation were the members of the European Union Program Support Unit 7 and embassy officials and representatives of international organizations in the DPRK. Vice chairman Kim Mun Chol of the KFPD delivered a report.Ms. Julie Nuttens, a disability expert of the European Union Program Support Unit 7, made a congratulatory speech. A ceremony of the first graduates from the Job Training Centre for the Disabled took place, to be followed by a speech of the mother of a disabled student. After the meeting the participants enjoyed a joint performance given by students with disabilities and members of the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace. The disabled students staged such colourful numbers as solo, recital, magic and dance, fully displaying their artistic abilities. The performance left a deep impression on the audience.

A basket of flowers was presented to them to congratulate their successful performance. The joint meeting clearly showed the deep attention of the DPRK government to the work for the sake of the persons with disabilities and served as an important opportunity for arousing the public interest in this work.
