Toward gold medal

Sim Sung Hyok with expressive eyes gleaming with intelligence and thick eyebrows is a swimmer of the Korean Sport Association of the Disabled. He cut a good figure in studying and sporting activities so that he was a pride of his friends, parents and neighbours. When he was 15, he lost his legs in an accident. He and his parents were in despair, spending days and nights in tears.

Whenever seeing people stride along the street and his friends play football in the ground, Sim felt his heart broken.

One day he met unexpectedly an official of the Korean Sports Association of the Disabled at his home and decided to swim by his advice. He was a swimmer at heart, so swimming again after the accident was a great delight for him. He felt as if he were in a dream.

He, first of all, studied to select the swimming method suitable for himself and trained hard with painstaking efforts to upgrade his records steadily. Overcoming difficulties and unbearable pains, Sung Hyok became one of the sportspeople with difficulties in the country.

He made his debut in international competitions in 2014. He won bronze medals in 2nd and 3rd Asian Paralympics. Gold medal in international games—this is his goal.
